VISCOUNT / FM Module

This is the Legend ’70s option module. The FM SYNTH module is a 16-voice polyphonic synthesizer featuring FM synthesis technology, designed exclusively for the Legend ’70s and Legend ’70s MKII series pianos.

This module consists of two distinct parts, each of which can be selected using its own button. Each part comprises a fully independent FM synthesis unit based on a 6-operator architecture. The operation of the LFOs and pitch envelope generators faithfully reproduces the classic FM synthesis method, allowing you to program the iconic sounds that have defined decades of music history.

FM SYNTH features 256 timbres classified into 8 types (categories), comparable to the classic cartridges of original FM synthesizers. Six of the cartridges contain non-overwritable factory presets, while the remaining two can be freely saved by the user. Each timber is editable and can be saved to the two user cartridges. You can then save the selected timber and all other parameters as an instrument program.

The architecture of this synthesizer is based on the classic FM synthesizer. Each of the six operators features standard parameters for tuning, output level, velocity sensitivity, and amplitude modulation sensitivity.
It features the same 32 algorithms as the original, an amplitude envelope generator with four rates and four levels per operator, keyboard level scaling, a pitch envelope generator shared by all operators, an LFO
(selectable from 6 waveforms), operator feedback control, oscillator sync (waveform phase reset), voice mode (mono/poly), and portamento.

In addition to these traditional settings, the FM SYNTH module features unique controls such as stereo width, modulator and operator FM depth, a filter with adjustable cutoff frequency and
resonance, and standard attack and release times. To understand these settings and learn how they function to generate and shape sound, please read the “Fundamentals of FM Synthesis” section in the user manual.
Most sound-generating parameters can be adjusted using the controls on the module panel. While the main synthesis parameters are displayed on the screen, you can also
freely assign parameters to each knob. Using the “Legend ’70s Editor” application, available for Windows, macOS, and iOS, you can control all parameters and functions built into the FM.
You can operate the synth in real time and easily create or edit new patches, as if you had a full control panel at your fingertips. The simple and intuitive interface of Legend ’70s Editor makes operating the FM synth extremely comfortable and fast.
