IK Multimedia's proprietary VRM (Volumetric Response Modeling) technology recreates the acoustic characteristics of Sunset Sound's legendary Studios 1, 2, and 3 with unprecedented spatial accuracy, realism, and practical mix control.
Unlike traditional static convolution reverb, VRM models the ""room's response itself"" to the sound source's position, orientation, and acoustic setup. This realistically reproduces the tone, depth, and even the movement of air that characterize the numerous renowned recordings produced at Sunset Sound.
■Main Features
- Select up to 27 sound source positions in each studio
- Directional/omnidirectional sound source modes
- Two independent reverb engines with parallel routing support
- Advanced size control with per-channel EQ
- 336 stereo impulse responses
- Studios 1 and 3 utilize Variable Acoustic Dampening Modeling technology to change the sound absorption state
・3D Source Positioning
Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II features a Live Room Positioning System that samples up to 27 sound source positions in each studio. Each position is not merely a numerical interpolation through calculation, but is individually recorded as an actual acoustic event. This faithfully reproduces early reflections, amplification from reflections off walls, and realistic perspective.
Moving the sound source causes the room to react naturally, providing depth and three-dimensionality that was not possible with conventional IR reverb.
Furthermore, Studios 1 and 3 feature variable damping that replicates the actual movable sound-absorbing panels found in Sunset Sound studios. This allows for physically precise control of decay characteristics and tonal balance, enabling engineers to create sounds with the same feel as adjusting room acoustics.
Two Reverbs Available in Parallel
Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II employs a dual-engine structure with two independent reverb engines operating in parallel. Live rooms, echo chambers, isolation booths, EMT plate reverb, AKG spring reverb, and more can be freely combined and used. Each has independent EQ, stereo control, and routing, allowing for extremely flexible spatial design, such as layering physical spaces with classic hardware reverbs or blending multiple rooms.
This dual-engine design evolves this plugin beyond mere room reproduction into a tool for designing space itself.
Advanced Spatial Control
The SIZE control on the Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II is not simply a decay parameter. It dynamically scales the impulse response from 0% to 200% while maintaining the tonal characteristics and spatial behavior of the original recording.
This allows you to tighten the reverberation of a large room without losing the detail of the early reflections, expand a small space into a cinematic environment, or adjust the decay to match the tempo and arrangement of the song. Instead of switching presets to match the mix, you can reshape the ""room itself"" without sacrificing realism.
Directional and Omni-Directional Modes
The Sunset Sound Studio Reverb II allows you to switch between two different ways of reverberating a room. Directional mode is for sound sources that concentrate and radiate energy in a specific direction, such as vocals, guitar cabinets, and brass instruments. Omni mode is designed for sound sources that spread evenly throughout the entire space, such as drums, piano, and ensembles. By adjusting the behavior of the source in this way, the sense of depth is improved, decay blends more smoothly, and the overall spatial reproduction of the mix is improved.
