“OLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS” is a Kontakt format piano instrument that recreates the semi-automatic performance piano called the ‘ghost piano’ owned by Olafur Arnalds.

This ‘ghost piano’ uses a system called STRATUS to achieve complex polyrhythmic piano performance, and is mounted on a Yamaha upright piano called DU1E3 with felt dampening.

This felt piano was precisely captured using a Coles 4038 ribbon microphone and a vintage Neumann KM83 condenser microphone in close position, through a Millenia pre-amp.

In addition, “OLAFUR ARNALDS STRATUS” samples Olafur's Korg PS-3100 and Roland Juno-60 synthesizers, and combines the rich built-in effects with the felt piano and digital instruments to create an emotional textural sound.

The organic, natural sounds and rhythmic poly-rhythmic patterns generated from a single note-on will stimulate the inspiration of composers.
