API modular microphone preamplifier, compatible with API 500. Designed to minimize pickup load and allow direct input from guitars, basses, and keyboards. Includes tone control for sound customization.

Similar to the console-based API 205L, the 505-DI is specifically designed to allow direct input from guitars, basses, and keyboards while minimizing the load effect when picking up high-impedance instruments. In addition, the 505-DI's gain control is used to normalize the instrument's input level to an output level of +4dBu. API's unique tone control reduces the phenomenon of potential low-end ""muddiness"" in the audio signal. Furthermore, the bright switch can be turned on as needed to add even more transparency. Various combinations of tone control and the bright switch eliminate the need for any separate EQ during recording. This also maintains a short, pure signal path. This minimal signal path eliminates the need for typical direct boxes that require microphone inputs, equalizers, and faders to obtain a recordable signal level. The 505-DI can raise the level of any instrument to very high line levels without additional amplification. The 100K/400K load switch allows you to subtly alter the pickup's tone and adjust the brightness or darkness of its high-frequency components. When connecting line-level devices such as built-in preamps, samplers, or keyboards to this unit, the 505-DI provides a 20dB PAD switch to reduce the level without adding load, thus maintaining the integrity of the input signal.
