What you need to get started

Tuner

Tuning is adjusting the strings to the correct pitch. A tuner is a necessary tool for accurate tuning. In order to play well, start with tuning!

It is for amplifying the signal from the bass. There are various types such as a large 10W ~ 30W small amps that are ideal for practice at home, and large amps that is also used in live shows. Let's choose the one of the output that suits the application.

Cable (shield)

A cable is necessary when connecting a bass to equipment such as tuners, amplifiers, and effectors. Also commonly called a shield.

Pick

It is a tool for plucking strings. In general, it is easier to make a uniform sound and easier to play fast phrases than playing with fingers. Because the playability and sound changes depending on the material and shape, try various types to find the one that suits you.

Strap

To stand and play, you’ll need a strap that hangs the instrument on your shoulder. Various lengths and materials are available. The bass is heavy, so it is recommended that the wide strap be used so as to avoid getting tired!

Metronome

The bassist has to have a sense of rhythm! A metronome is a reliable machine that beats out a certain rhythm. Practice listening to the metronome and cultivate a sense of rhythm.

Stand

If you lean the bass against a wall or put it on the floor, there is a risk that the neck may be strained or that it will tip over. We recommend using a stand.

Case

When transporting or when you don't play for a long time, keep it in a case. In general, the soft case, gig bag, semi-hard case, and hard case increase in the order of strength, but the weight also tends to get heavier. Focus on fashion and choose your favorite one.

Effector

It is a tool to change the sound. "Overdrive" and "Distortion" to distort the sound, "Compressor" "Limiter" to equalize the volume, "Equalizer" to adjust the balance from high to low, "Reverb" to reproduce reverberation, "Delay" to repeat the sound are just a few of the effects that can produce various new sounds, especially when combined. There are also so-called "multi-effectors" in which one or more effects are built in.

What is needed for maintenance

Cloth

It is a cloth for polishing the bass. You may want to arrange them separately for each cleaner you use.

Polish

It is mainly used when polishing the body.

Lemon oil

Effective for cleaning unpainted rose fingerboards.

Tool

They are convenient when you change the strings, and include such tools as wire cutters for cutting strings and peg winders for turning the tuning pegs. Soldering, soldering irons, pliers, etc. are required when rewiring, such as when pickups are being replaced. Neck adjustment, string height adjustment and so on require a wrench etc.

String

First of all, let's check the string length (scale) of your bass. Usually, Jazz Bassese and Precision Basses have long scales, but there are scales such as medium scale, short scale that are shorter and also super long scale longer than long scale. If you choose the wrong scale, you may not be able to string the instrument, so be careful.
