86% miniature-sized MS-20. Equipped with MIDI IN and USB ports.
●Supervised by the original MS-20 engineer. Fully recreates the analog circuitry of the era.
The MS-20 mini is dedicated to a faithful recreation of the original MS-20. The original engineer himself led development, striving to reproduce the original circuitry. Where replacement parts were necessary, the engineer relied on his own ears to judge, faithfully recreating the sound of the era.
The MS-20 mini's sound may seem slightly bright and aggressive. This is the authentic sound of the original MS-20, free from the component degradation present in later units.
●2VCO / 2VCF / 2VCA / 2EG / 1LFO configuration.
The MS-20 mini recreates the MS-20's signature synthesis, including dual oscillators with ring modulators, and envelope generators with hold and delay capabilities. The VCA retains the original's basic design while incorporating modifications that reduce noise compared to the original.
● High-pass/low-pass filters with unique distortion and self-oscillation.
The MS-20's most defining feature is its powerful filters, both high-pass and low-pass, equipped with resonance. When resonance is maxed out, the filter self-oscillates like an oscillator. Its unique and dramatic sound changes earned it a reputation as one-of-a-kind, leading to its adoption in the monotron and monotribe.
The MS-20 mini employs the earlier-period filter circuit from the MS-20's production run, which is highly regarded for its more extreme character.
● External Signal Processor (ESP) for processing external signals.
The ESP, emblematic of the MS-20's experimental spirit, allows the synthesizer to be controlled by the pitch and volume of an external input signal. For example, inputting an electric guitar creates a guitar synthesizer, while inputting a microphone creates a vocal synthesizer.
● Highly flexible patching system.
The patching system on the right side of the panel allows complex sound creation by connecting jacks with cables to reconfigure unit connections. Possibilities are limited only by the user's imagination—various sounds can be created by combining modulation inputs/outputs, triggers, sample & hold, and noise generators. Beginners can start by patching according to the MS-20 flowchart printed on the panel.
