AUDIX OM Series

AUDIX OMシリーズ特集

As various microphones are produced by various manufacturers, I think it makes it difficult to find a microphone that suits you. We’ve summarized each feature of the AUDIX OM series to help you make your decision. You will surely find a mic that suits you.

What is AUDIX

A number of excellent mics have been introduced by Audix, including the OM series of vocal microphones and the D series of instrument microphones, all of which have been popular all over the world, and are used by many sound engineers and musicians. In order to meet various situations and user needs, they seek the opinions of musicians and engineers during development to achieve top-class audio quality.

The origin of the OM series

In 1986, AUDIX announced its first professional microphone, the OM1, and raised its voice. OM1 was highly rated in magazine reviews and was well-received by notable musicians including the Beach Boys. They confirmed that it was superior to the SHURE / SM58, which had already become the standard microphone for sound quality and feedback, but it was not possible to easily increase sales volume.
They developed a new technology to connect capsules together, and microphone performance was further polished. The response and weight reduction of the diaphragm inside the capsule have made it possible to capture sound accurately and naturally. This technology is called VLM (very low mass) technology, and with this technology, they succeeded in developing the OM3 and OM5, which are now standard products, in quick succession. These products boast extremely high specifications, and they have decided the future of the company.

Feature of OM series

The OM series uses the patented VLM technology for all microphones. This technology makes the diaphragm ultra-lightweight, achieving accurate sound reproduction and natural sound quality that are in line with other microphones. Also, the clear sound quality with good high frequency sound and high feedback resistance that overwhelms other microphones are attractive features of this series. The slender body fits in the hand, and has a sense of quality with the all-black line-up, and has a timeless design.
Many famous musicians overseas use the OM series microphones for live performances and the OM series continues to support great performances.

  • OM2/OM2S

OM2 is the entry level model of the OM series. While it has an affordable price, it also has a stylish, familiar shape common to the OM series. The microphone capsule, which is the core of the sound, uses the same CLM TYPE B as OM3 and OM11, and there is no compromise in sound quality. Due to its excellent performance, it was selected as the 1999 best microphone by American music magazine Electronic Musician.
The frequency response is 50 Hz to 16 kHz, which is slightly narrower than the other models in the OM series, but when you use it in practice, you won't feel the narrowness of the range, and the midrange has a firm core, and a drop that is also a feature of AUDIX. The aim is to be a mic that is easy to handle for live use, karaoke, speech, instrument collection, etc. An attraction of this model is that you can use it regardless of genre. Thorough measures have been taken to prevent feedback, and it is possible to achieve high volumes. In addition, the durability of the microphone is also remarkable. There are videos of shocking durability tests on the manufacturer's site, so check them out!
Incorporating the superior technology of the upper model while keeping the price low, the durable OM2 is a dynamic microphone that is perfect for the first-time microphone purchaser.

  • OM3/OM3S

Since its release, the AUDIX / OM3 has boasted huge popularity as a dynamic microphone standard product. The OM3 was announced as an important product that determined the fate of AUDIX. AUDIX's unique diaphragm weight reduction technology "VLM technology" is used, and it is sold as a microphone that has much higher specs than the first in the series, the OM1. As a result, it became a representative product of AUDIX, and exposed the name all over the world.
Positioned as the standard mic in the OM series, the OM3 is a model that plays the low end firmly. There is also growth in the high region, and there is an impression that the range is wide compared to ordinary microphones. The strength of the mids is not as strong as the SM58, but it's a very good, clear sound that produces a vocal with a strong presence that never gets buried in the band. In addition, "VLM technology" has made it possible to capture natural and accurate sound, and it also features clear-cut and easy-to-hear vocals. And like other the other models in the OM series, feedback is not a problem, and you can achieve greater volumes than usual. In both live use, and of course, in karaoke, the mic will fully demonstrate its value, and can be recommended for a variety of users.

  • OM5

This OM5 is the representative model of AUDIX, and became the spark of the OM series hit. It is one of the first microphones to use "VLM technology", which succeeded in reducing the weight of the diaphragm. Looking at the frequency characteristics, it can be confirmed that the low frequency is suppressed compared to 48Hz-19kHz and the other models in the OM series. This is an important part of determining the character of the OM5. Also, it is characterized by a higher gain compared to other microphones. This microphone is used in the Sound House in-house live space, it has a distinctly more powerful impression than other microphones. Not only is this due to the high gain of the microphone, but the secret is hidden in the sound character as well. While securing clarity by suppressing the unnecessary low range, the voice feature of the natural and clear contour by "VLM technology" is added. As a result, while suppressing feedback, it achieves powerful sound quality and succeeds in creating a sound character that best matches rock. There is a crisp, clear sound in the high frequencies, it pick up shouts and screams often found in metal and hard rock, and has become a strong ally.
Grammy award-winning singer "Alanis Morissette" loves this sound character and continues to love using the OM5 in live performances. In addition, the high degree of perfection of this microphone can be understood from the fact that many famous artists use it.

  • OM6

The frequency response of the OM6 is 40Hz-19kHz, so wide that you may misunderstand the specs to be those of a condenser microphone. This is the feature that expresses the character of OM6 quite well. From the lows to the highs, the natural appeal of collecting sounds evenly, and the dynamic sound of the condenser mic has achieved the best sound quality of this series. It is well-matched particularly for women's vocals. Because it picks up the beautiful highs, and breathes and vibrato that stretch out so delicately, it produces a vocal with a touch of sex appeal. It is a sound that suits any genre, but in genres where the expressive power of vocals is often required, such as Enka, R & B, and JAZZ, the value of the mic will be particularly evident. It is also recommended for those who want to use condenser microphones live, while preventing feedback.

  • OM7

The OM7 is a low gain model positioned as the top model in the OM series. As a result of pursuing the best microphone for vocals that can be used for recording as well as live performances, AUDIX developed a low-gain microphone that gives top priority to sound quality improvement using a low impedance design! The attraction of the OM7 is its "overwhelmingly high resolution". Extreme clarity when compared with other mics, and in addition, the natural, good sound is fused in, and a unique-to-AUDIX sound is realized. Regardless of gender, the OM7 plays an active part in any genre. In addition, this model is also the strongest against feedback in the OM series. It enables pinpoint mixing and can be used without care with any live performance. It is also understandable why this model has won many high accolades overseas. Please experience this amazing sound.

  • OM11

The top-end model of the OM series, the "OM11", is a microphone that evolved based on the OM1, the origin of AUDIX. It boasts a high SPL, is strong against feedback and handling noise, and has a clear sound. In addition, only the OM11 has a different body shape from other OM series, setting it apart as the top model in the series.
The density of the sound is very high, the resolution and the ability of being able to hear each and every sound clearly are impressive, and it is a sound where vocals stand out without being buried in the mix. Regardless of the genre or of gender, it performs best in any situation. It's highly directional and can minimize audio clutter so you won't have to worry about live mic settings. In addition, the sound quality characteristics and functionality of this microphone are fully realized not only as a microphone for vocals but also in situations where you want to securely deliver a voice such as a conference or event moderator. If you are looking for a higher-ranked microphone, this is a dynamic microphone that will satisfy your
