A device that divides the input signal into frequency bands. The crossover is a filter that is used to divide the playback frequency, such as low and high frequencies, into the playback frequency that matches the capabilities of each speaker. The reproduction frequency band is divided into two or more bands, and each one is reproduced by a separate unit, and it is an indispensable for a multi-speaker system.
There are two types of crossover: passive and active.
Some subwoofers have a passive crossover. There is no need to use a power supply, and simply by connecting a power amplifier → a subwoofer → a full range speaker, effective playback is possible. However, because the volume balance between the high and low frequencies cannot be obtained, some combinations may not be effective, so care must be taken.
Also called a " channel divider ", they are currently used under many multi-speaker system environments. Although a separate power supply is required, finer adjustments such as the frequency band and the slope of the filter are possible, as opposed to the passive type. It is essential to bring out the capabilities of all the speakers.
Among channel dividers, there are not only 2 way with woofer (low frequency) and tweeter (high frequency) but also 3 way with additional squawker (mid-range), 4 way, etc.. Please check the corresponding number of divisions when installing. Furthermore, there are analog and digital units, and the features are as follows.
