What is a dimmer?

A machine that controls and adjusts the brightness of light bulbs.

Dimmer function

Dimmer equipment sold by Sound House are DMX standard (see DMX ). Connect par lights and other lights to light control equipment, and control with a DMX standard controller. In addition, there are also models with a fader knob mounted on the dimmer main body, and by controlling this fader, light intensity can be adjusted with the dimmer unit by adjusting the light intensity.

Slidak

Triac

In the past, large transformers called Slidak were mainstream. Slidak controls light by adjusting the voltage sent to the lighting equipment. At present, dimmer equipment using electronic elements called TRIAC is common. TRIAC performs switching control (power ON / OFF) continuously and at high speed for dimming.

Power supply method

A small dimmer unit can be easily be supplied with power simply by connecting it to a parallel outlet in a home. (Single-phase two-wire 100V) Single-phase three-wire connection (electrical work qualification required) or single-phase three-wire connection, which is used with large-scale power control units are used for large-sized power control units. It can be powered from multiple circuits in phase 2 wire system.

What can be controlled with a dimmer

Controllable: Incandescent light bulbs, halogen light bulbs
Not controllable: Devices using fluorescent lights, LEDs, motors and power transformers
