What you need for tuning

Let's tune

When tuning the drum, the trick is to turn the bolts little by little while keeping the tension of each bolt equal.

Tune

片側の音だけを確実に聴く

Turn the diagonal bolts little by little in the numerical order shown in the image. At this time, turn the bolt so that tension is evenly applied.

Listen to the sound

Just hit about 2 to 3 cm from the rim adjacent to the lug, . In the same way, hit near the next lug.
Well, did you hear the difference?

More detailed listening

Next, place your index finger in the middle of the head and hit the same lug again with a slight pressure as if pressing on a guitar string. Stop the vibration and immediately hit the next lug. Now you can hear a big difference?

Tuning by lug

Tuning by lug

By pressing the center of the drum, you hear the sound that can be played between the head and your finger.

The purpose of this method is to simplify tuning. Tap and play around each lug, and listen to the resonance that can be heard in that vicinity. If you adjust with just the two lugs between each other, the difference in scale will be as easy to understand as when tuning a guitar. If you start with the 1 and 8 lug tunings, then adjust the scale of all the lugs, such as 3 and 8. Once this is done, the drum head tuning is complete. If you want to adjust the scale high or low, it is easy from here. In the same way, you can achieve the desired sound.

When lugs does not match

When lugs does not match

Have you ever used a drum that the pitch of one lug was too high and the tension on the rod was too loose? This is a problem caused by the lug across from it being too tight. For example, try increasing the pitch of lugs across from each other that are tuned next to the adjacent lug by a 1/2 turn. When you have tuned this lug, check the tuned lug. The lugs on the other side of the tightened lugs should be higher pitched. Understanding the one-two relationship allows for perfectly controlled drum tuning.

Let's also tune the bottom head

Let's ring the bottom head

Tap the bottom head to hear the sound, then block it and play the top head. Decide which sound you are looking for and adjust the lugs on the other head as above to correct the pitch.

Head adjustment

Play with both heads at the same pitch. You should hear a sound that you have never heard before! You can adjust the bottom head's pitch according to your playing style, either by raising or lowering the pitch. If this method is learned, adjustment of your drum sound will always be perfect.

All you need is practice!

Always listen to the sound of your drums. Always listen to the sound of the instrument whenever you are with band mates. It is important to get familiar with the sound of your drums, and listen to whether there is a sustain with the 12-inch 14-inch drums. Drum tuning confidence leads to playing confidence!

Tuning practice should be alone

Don't think about tuning with your bandmates. You cannot even hear your own sound with the guitar player playing at full volume. Please take out one tom. First try to tune high. And then, let's lower it. As long as you have time, let's practice. Then set the drums you have tuned and try to play lightly. The sounds you have tuned with love should be surprisingly different from the sounds of other drums.

Relax!

If it doesn't work, don't be too frustrated. Let's keep trying. Relax, relax. Stick with it, tuning is listening to the sound ... that is the musician's favorite thing after all!
