Parts attached to the shell, such as lugs and tom holders, affect the sound of the shell. It is said that if the hardware touches the shell as little as possible, it sounds better, and manufacturers have come up with various innovations.

In the case of the tom holder, the holder is often attached to the rim, with tension bolts, without attaching the holder directly to the shell, and it is often found in middle to upper models. Also, the name varies depending on the manufacturer.
The shape and size of the lug are not only for appearance, but manufacturers also reduce the amount of contact the lug has with the shell as much as possible to reduce the effects they have on the sound. Although the tube lug is often used to reduce the installation area, there are hook lugs used by YAMAHA and PEARL which are free floating and do not attach any parts to the shell.
