Tuning method is the same as mentioned in the Tuning (snare) , turn the bolts little by little while equalizing the tension of each bolt.
Generally speaking, the tension balance between the hitting surface and the front head is more relaxed at the front head. While checking the sound, let's find your favorite point.
Bass drums are muted differently from other drums. Snares and toms use tape and muting materials that are often attached to the hitting surface, but in the case of bass drums, put the muting material in the bass drum is standard. Muting emphasizes the attack and gives a clear bass drum sound.
Many people have seen a blanket or the likes in the bass drum, but it is put there to mute the bass drum. It's not meant to be taken out of the bass drum when you get tired and want to sleep.
As muting material exclusively for the bass drum is sold by manufacturers, but it is interesting to try to find a product of your choice while testing a variety of materials.
By cutting holes on the front of the bass drum, you can improve attack and dropouts. In the case of rock, etc., there is a hole because a good attack sound is preferred, but there are cases where it is not possible to open the hole, such as in the case of JAZZ etc. which does not require an attack.
Also, by making a hole, it will be easier to collect the sound by pointing a microphone toward the hole, but air will come out from the hole at the moment you hit it, so be careful to find a good position when setting up the microphone.
It is convenient to use REMO hole cut ring etc. for first-timers.
As a rule of thumb
When setting the bass drum, adjust the length of the legs so that the front hoop floats slightly above the floor.
By floating off the floor, bass drums become more stable while playing and do not move around; also the bass drum is less likely to be absorbed by the floor.
