Looking ahead to the next decade - RME's first preamplifiers compatible with audio networks arrive The RME 12Mic is a 12-channel microphone preamplifier that has been meticulously designed with many years of technical expertise, experience and passion for sound. As the latest model in RME's high-end microphone preamplifier series that has received overwhelming support from around the world, it features precise and high-resolution A/D conversion, a design that combines analog operability with digital convenience, a multi-channel system with MADI & AVB, 268x282 channel internal routing and the jitter suppression function SteadyClock FS, to meet the needs of modern professional recording environments. The converters boast an outstanding signal-to-noise ratio on all channels, and all 12 front XLR connections accept mic/line level signals. Additionally, the first four connectors can also accept TRS and feature switchable high impedance (Hi-Z) for instruments. Maximum flexibility with MADI and ADAT The MADI coaxial and optical (via optional SFP module) MADI inputs and outputs can be operated independently or redundantly and MADI signals can be daisy-chained, merged or converted with very low latency. The 3 optical ADAT outputs provide up to 24 channels of audio at single speed (e.g. a combination of microphone inputs, MADI and AVB signals) or 12 output channels at 96 kHz sampling rate, ensuring compatibility with a wide range of audio interfaces. Furthermore, the ADAT connectors can be used to send a monitor mix from the AVB or MADI inputs to a DAC/headphone amplifier etc. AVB networked audio, fully redundant The 12Mic is an AVB device based on the recommendations of MILAN. RME's AVB core is a meticulous implementation of the IEEE standards for "audio streaming", "detection" and "control", allowing RME devices to be detected and fully controlled by any AVB controller. Manufacturer-specific control protocols are a thing of the past. All signals reaching the 12Mic can be routed or streamed over the network with fixed latency and guaranteed bandwidth. No need to configure a switching hub like with other networked audio. And AVB, MADI and power are all redundant, reducing risk in critical locations. Fast Operation Control the device status directly from the front panel and access all functions intuitively. RME's AVB devices can be fully remotely controlled using a web interface over any network link (including Wi-Fi), allowing quick operations such as creating gain groups, switching phantom power or routing signals to the headphone outputs. The integrated routing matrix allows all analog inputs and all digital signals or AVB streams to be routed directly to the headphone outputs. This allows for quick troubleshooting with clear visibility of audio signals, clocking and connections. Precise recording/playback/editing environment with SteadyClock FS In digital audio, the clock frequency is crucial, as it requires a correlation between the audio bits and the reference time axis. However, clock frequencies are not always stable. The 12Mic offers perfect performance with SteadyClock FS, which provides the lowest clock jitter and the highest jitter tolerance by suppressing jitter values to an accuracy of femtoseconds (1 quadrillionth of a second). It operates with outstanding performance in all clock modes, and the high quality of the analog conversion allows you to monitor the sound as it is, without any coloration. RME's digital conversion is performed without any data loss or deterioration in sound quality, and SteadyClock FS guarantees that the sound image will not deteriorate. The greater depth and clearer sound image allow you to record and mix correctly and precisely. Optical MADI SFP Module (Optionally Available) The MADI SFP module allows you to add an optical SFP transceiver to a compatible RME device such as the 12Mic, allowing you to send and receive up to 64 audio channels to and from other MADI devices. RME SFP modules are available in multimode and singlemode versions and can be inserted and removed while the RME MADI device is powered on, without the need to power the device off.
